A Series of Workshops with Russian Directors

 

The DC Collaborative will be hosting workshops for 8 Russian children's theater directors as part of the Youth Theatre Project for the Russian Federation on Jan. 31 2011, 9 to 4:30  at the Mead Theatre Lab 916 G Street NW Washington DC. The say will be sponsored by teh US Dept of State.


 

Workshop Schedule:

Open and Introductions, 9am

The Art of the Fight 9:30-11am Presented by Shakespeare Theatre Company

Developing Cultural Understanding via Children's Theater,  11:30-1pm Presented by Discovery Theater

Lunch 1-2pm

Interactive Theatre for Early Learners, 2-3:30pm Presented by Imagination Stage

Reflections and wrap up, 3:30-4:30pm Michael Bobbitt, Artistic Director, Adventure Theatre

The Department of State has outlined the following specific objectives for the project:

  • Explore the relationship between Russian and American youth’s theatrical sensibilities
  • Explore best practices in youth theatre education, production, technique, and mentorship.
  •  Learn about play-writing as a method of self expression and satirical commentary.
  • Introduce the visitors to American theatre production, design, and implementation.

The DC Collaborative works with its members to provide equitable access to arts and humanities education for ALL DC public and chartered public schools for the growth of the WHOLE child.

The DC Collaborative promotes quality arts and humanities education for all DC public and chartered public schools for the growth of the whole child. To accomplish this citywide effort, the DC Collaborative draws on the resources of more than 60 arts and humanities cultural organizations that compose our membership. The two major programs of the DC Collaborative include Arts for Every Student, and the Arts Education Initiative Professional Development Program.
